Junior Tae Kwon-Do
At our school, we teach a Korean martial art known as Tae Kwon-Do,
"the way of the foot and fist". Although we teach traditional Korean techniques, we emphasize a Western approach to harmonizing body, mind and spirit. With our training system, your child will increase his personal strength, flexibility, coordination and fitness level. You will be amazed as he or she develops greater respect both for himself and others, self-confidence, motivation, and ultimately an indomitable spirit as well. When it comes to sports, safety is a primary concern for many parents. Tae kwon-do is one of the safest physical activities in which your child can engage. One of your child's biggest challenges may be in learning how to stand up to bullying in school. Your child may encounter verbal, physical or intellectual bullying. Will he know how to respond to these situations? We can help your child identify effective ways to respond so that bullying is minimized or eliminated. Even if bullying is not an issue, your child may need to battle his own fears and insecurities when it comes to trying or learning something new. Self-defense is a major part of our system and your child will learn a range of self-defense techniques that are age-appropriate and effective. Two valuable principles that we teach are "The best defense is common sense" and "We learn to fight, so that we don't have to." Starting from white belt level, a student quickly learns that martial arts is a very goal-oriented process. He'll be able to measure his own progress each time he earns a different colored belt. Our junior curriculum will also help your child learn to identify other worthy goals in his life such as striving for greater academic achievement and being a good citizen of the world. Our junior curriculum also includes a " Powerful Word" character building component that we believe helps our students build a solid foundation based on good values. Every month we share a "Powerful Word of the Month" and assign one age-appropriate homework project on that word. This character building program was developed by Dr. Robyn Silverman, a leading child development specialist in the martial arts field, | Or
